Local artists display creations at Pioneer Valley Art Festival

FEEDING HILLS, Mass. (WWLP) – Sunday was the final day of the Pioneer Valley Art Festival, which not only drew out people’s artistic abilities, but also helped others.

The fifth annual Pioneer Valley Art Festival allowed over 75 local artists and artisans to display their creations for the public to see, admire, and bring home with them.

“I love making something that people use every day: their mug,” said Malea Rhodes of Rhodes Ceramics. “If the first thing that they reach for in the morning is one of my mugs, I like that.”

Malea Rhodes creates ceramic pieces, but she loves what she calls her critter mugs.

“They are little animated mugs that look like chickens or foxes or little animals,” Rhodes said. “Just to cheer people up, bring a little fun to your day.”

Other tents, like the Warrior’s Art Room, helped others through art and creativity, specifically our country’s veterans.

“A lot of veterans coming in, letting them know, ‘Hey, we are out here for you guys,’” said Steve Jones of the Warriors Art Room. “Come in, make art with us in a therapeutic, safe environment. And you don’t even have to have any skills, we will teach you them.”

The Warrior’s Art Room promoted the creation of art within not only veterans and active duty military members, but also their immediate families through this free art studio. The festival showcased everything from paintings to ceramics, but there was one tent that allowed you to be the artist.

“I love to see the different inspirations everybody has,” said Jennifer Baginski Pronovost of Agawam Rocks. “Everybody is different, so is art, and we love to spread that around.”

Agawam Rocks is a tent allowing anyone to become an artist through the painting of rocks. This served as a way to share your art in the palm of your hand.

“They share it, they take one if they need some inspiration or anything, and just spread the kindness around Agawam,” Baginski Pronovost said.
