LINCOLN, Calif. — A video circulating online shows a Lincoln High School student hit a teacher during a freshman class meeting inside the gym, sparking concern among parents, students, and the community.
The clip, shared on social media, captures the student striking a staff member in Lincoln, then shoving them as the confrontation escalates. A school resource officer intervened and brought the student to the ground before the situation was resolved.
Community members who viewed the video expressed shock.
“What is this kid thinking,” said Lincoln resident Joe Esparza. “They can’t act like that around people, especially at school.”
“See how calm the teacher is. He is anxious. He (student) is the one that’s being aggressive,” said Jody Shorkey, another resident. “So I applaud the teachers and I applaud the police officer.”
A former Lincoln High student also reacted, saying, “I knew the teacher that was involved in it. It was just devastating to see that video. It was sad.”
The former student also added incident like these seem more frequent.
“Been spiking a lot recently and just think we should watch out for. Teach your kid discipline, you have to teach your kid respect.”
The Western Placer Unified School District released this statement:
“Yesterday, during a freshman class meeting at Lincoln High School, an incident occurred between a student and a staff member that resulted in an increased police presence on campus. The situation was quickly de-escalated with the support of school staff and law enforcement.
The student involved will face disciplinary action, and the matter is also being addressed by law enforcement. While the incident was witnessed by a number of students, it was resolved promptly without further disruption to the school day.
The safety and well-being of students and staff remain the highest priority for Lincoln High School and the Western Placer Unified School District. The behavior displayed in this incident does not reflect the values of respect, responsibility, and kindness that the District upholds, and actions of this nature are not acceptable at any school.
We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment and will continue working in partnership with our community to reinforce these expectations.”
