LeBron James announced a new flavor of Hennessy Tuesday afternoon, but a cryptic message caused ticket prices to soar for the Lakers matchup with the Wizards.
WASHINGTON — Between Monumental Sports Network recently being dropped from YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV, Wizards fans are now facing another obstacle when it comes to watching their hometown team.
For context, LeBron James released a video of him walking to a chair and sitting across from a man in a suit with the hashtag Second Decision. The announcement was another collaboration with Hennessy.
In the video, he makes a nod to his decision in 2010 to “move his talents to South Beach,” when he revealed he was going leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat to join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
Many online were speculating that he would announce his retirement while others thought it was just another commercial. Some also speculated that it’s right on time for Amazon Prime Day and James has a deal with Amazon.
How does this affect Washington Wizards fans? Well, expect to see a hefty price point when checking out tickets for the Los Angeles Lakers Jan. 30 matchup.
Since his announcement post, ticket prices soared. Wizards tickets for their Lakers matchup averaged around $539 on Vivid Seats with $72 being the cheapest seat at Capital One Arena. SeatGeek had seats starting at $165.
As of 11:20 a.m. on Oct. 7, the cheapest ticket a fan can find is $377.55 before TicketMaster fees kick in. That ticket is in the 400 section. If a fan is a big spender, the most expensive ticket is, of course, floor seats. Those are going for $11,434.50.
