RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Layoffs will be taking place at PBS North Carolina, the network said Wednesday.
According to PBS NC, the reduction in employees was due to a budget shortfall prompted by federal funding cuts, possible state funding cuts, and an increase in operational costs.
“These decisions are difficult,” PBS NC CEO and general manager David Crabtree said in a statement. “Every person who works here has played an important role in shaping who we are as an organization. We are committed to treating them with the dignity and respect they deserve throughout this transition.”
According to PBS NC, the employees affected by the “involuntary Reduction in Force program” will be notified by Sept. 24.
Voluntary separations were offered to employees until earlier this month. Five employees accepted a voluntary separation package and will leave at the end of October, according to PBS NC.
“We are deeply grateful for their service and dedication,” Crabtree said in a statement.
The network said other efforts have been taken to reduce the number of layoffs, including lowering non-personnel expenses, delaying the rehiring of vacant positions, pausing certain projects, and realigning development efforts.
More information will be provided when all employees impacted by the layoffs have been notified, PBS NC said.
