SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s the last day of Adoption Week at Dakin Humane Society, an adoption event to honor its 55th anniversary.

Dakin Humane Society turned 55 years old on August 1st, and to celebrate, they want to connect as many animals with loving homes as possible. This adopt-a-cat event will have all adult cats (6 months and up) have $55 adoption fees, and all kittens (under 6 months) have a discount of $55 off their adoption fees.

All of the cats and kittens up for adoption are medically and behaviorally cleared, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines. Dakin said the first thing you should do when you’re thinking of adopting a cat is to make a room in your house or apartment, just for them.

When you bring them home, it is important to put all of their things, including a bed, litter box, food, and water into a room just for them so they can acclimate and feel comfortable.

If you are looking for a four-legged friend to join your family, Dakin’s Adopt-a-Cat event will be held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 171 Union Street in Springfield.

“Summer always means lots of animals who need rehoming,” said Dakin’s Executive Director Meg Talbert.  “Cats and kittens, especially, arrive in large numbers at Dakin, and we’re hoping that by reducing adoption fees we can help them find homes that much faster.”
