Key ramp between Highways 99 and 50 closing in Sacramento this weekend

(FOX40.COM) — The ongoing construction on Highway 50 in Sacramento is bringing the weekend closure of a ramp that connects one direction of Highway 99 to Highway 50.
According to Caltrans, the ramp that connects northbound Highway 99 to westbound Highway 50 will be closed from Friday at 9 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.
The ramp is the one drivers would take if they were driving from Elk Grove toward Sacramento and needed to head west toward Yolo County and the Bay Area.
The work is part of Fix50, a project that has been underway for several years and will ultimately add carpool lanes to the stretch of Highway 50 from the Sacramento River to Watt Avenue.
Along with the ramp closure, Caltrans will also be restricting some lanes along the stretch, and the speed limit will drop to 55 miles per hour during the work.
The detours available to drivers are the following:
• From northbound 99, head to eastbound Highway 50, exit at 65th Ave. and turn left to then merge onto westbound Highway 50
• From northbound 99, continue north and turn left onto N St., then turn left again at 29th St. to merge onto southbound 99 and then westbound Highway 50
Drivers farther south of central Sacramento can also use Interstate 5 to merge onto either direction of Highway 50 to move around the central part of the city.
