Kate Bush releases emotional anti war short titled “Little Shrew”

The beautiful yet sad short features a edited version of “Snowflake” from her 2011 album 50 Words for Snow. The idea for the short arose after the devastating invasion of Ukraine in early 2022 but it was not finished until this year. The singer stresses that although the short was inspired by the situation in Ukraine it is meant to draw attention to all children caught up in the conflict of war. The short was originally meant to feature around a human girl but Kate eventually decided that sadly people may feel more empathy for an animal rather than a human child. The animated short features a little shrew (A Caucasian Pygmy Shrew, also know as a Ukrainian Shrew) moving through a war torn city, trying to catch a little bit of hope.

The singer said “All wars leave horrific scars: ruined lives, families ripped apart, life-changing injuries, trauma and loss on a massive scale – but it’s the children who suffer the most in so many ways. Their past, present and future melt away into fear and uncertainty.” and she requested people to make donations to Warchild or any other charity that provides aid to those affected by the horrors of war. It’s no surprise that with songs such as Army Dreamers, Breathing and Pull Out The Pin that the singer has been concerned for a long time about the massive effects that war has on us, both short and long term.
