The Air Force base in Prince George’s County turned away visitors ahead of schedule.

LANDOVER, Md. — The buzz surrounding the air show at Joint Base Andrews was apparently sky-high on Saturday. The Air Force base in Prince George’s County turned away visitors ahead of schedule as parking reached capacity, a Joint Base Andrews spokesperson told WUSA9 Saturday.

The weekend event’s popularity appeared to catch the Air Force base and the Prince George’s County Police Department off-guard on Saturday. Scheduled to conclude at 5 p.m., PGPD announced at around 12:30 p.m. that visitors would no longer be admitted into the air show for the rest of the day. Officers said the early closure as due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

The closures at the air show were due to a lack of parking spaces, a spokesperson for Joint Base Andrews confirmed to WUSA9 Saturday afternoon.

The event, featuring flybys, flag jumps and other patriotic showcases, offers opportunities for visitors to get an up-close look at military aircraft and affiliated squadrons.

The show must go on though, as the  Joint Base Andrews Air Show was expected to continue on Sunday with gates opening at 9 a.m. and and the event ending at 4 p.m. A spokesperson for Joint Base Andrews said visitors should start looking for parking as early as 7 a.m. in case parking reaches capacity, again.

General admission to the air show is free although there are some optional premium tickets available with access to box seats sold to guests for $82.50 a pop.

After Sunday, the next Joint Base Andrews Air Show will take place in 2027.
