Irish immigrant woman killed in Queens murder-suicide was ‘loving mother, caring sister and beautiful daughter’

A woman fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide in Queens was an Irish immigrant and mother living with a new boyfriend, the Daily News has learned.

Denise Morgan, 39, was found dead alongside boyfriend Joed Taveras, 33, in their apartment on 69th Place near Cooper Ave. in Glendale around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Both had been shot in the head and a handgun was found next to Taveras. The couple was declared dead in the apartment.

As word of her death spread, tributes for the slain woman poured over social media.

“No words can express the pain we are dealing with now,” the victim’s sister, Shannon Morgan, wrote in a Facebook post. “In the blink of an eye our world has broken and we are absolutely crushed. My beautiful sister has been taken from my life by such a heinous cowardly act.”

Morgan was from Drogheda, a port town in County Louth about 35 miles north of Dublin, according to a Gofundme set up for the victim.

“Denise was (a) loving mother, caring sister and beautiful daughter,” the organizer fundraising for Morgan’s family wrote. “Her love for life was contagious. The news of her murder sent shockwaves through our hearts, leaving a void that will never be filled.”

Morgan worked at a Forest Hills bar and restaurant about three miles from the apartment she and Taveras lived in.

“Her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her,” the bar wrote in an Instagram tribute to the woman. “We will always appreciate the person she was.”

Morgan’s family plans to use the money raised through the Gofundme to bring her body back to Ireland for memorial services.

“We will never get justice for this,” Shannon Morgan wrote. “We are absolutely heartbroken.”
