So no apologies for diverting to the mainstream and phone shop territory for this Gadget Master post. If one phone defines the smartphone market, it’s the iPhone…
iPhone Air
The main dimensions are a thickness of just 5.6mm, with height and width of 156.2mm and 74.7mm. And it weighs 165 grams, for its Super Retina XDR 6.5‑inch display, with 3,000 nits peak brightness. (The iPhone 17 Pro has a 6.9-inch display, by the way.)
Apart from being very thin and light, Apple highlights a number of points about the iPhone Air. For example, the A19 Pro chip with all day battery life (27 hours from a 6 core CPU, 5 core GPU). And there’s, a new look iOS 26, the 48MP Fusion Main camera (“two advanced cameras in one” says Apple), and support for smarter group selfies.

Apple Intelligence
There’s also Apple Intelligence, but note that this is asterisked. It is only available in beta, and it’s not available in all regions or languages.
What does it do? You’re talking Notification and Voicemail summaries; Live Translation in Messages, Phone, and FaceTime; an Image Playground and Image Wand; and support for Writing Tools and Siri enhancements around product knowledge, more resilient request handling, and more natural voice processing.)
There’s also ChatGPT integration within Siri6 and Writing Tools (where ChatGPT services are available)
Finally, the Grade 5 titanium frame contains 80 per cent recycled titanium.
Pricing
Available from next Friday, you can only pre-order the iPhone Air at the mo. In terms of pricing, you are looking at around $999, which shockingly – but sadly, unsurprisingly – relates to a $999 U.S. price point.
The official line, by the way, is that the phone is “awe-dropping” (!). You can read more info on the Apple website.
