Working in fashion means I spend a lot of time chasing the new. Every season, designers unveil fresh collections, brands release capsule edits and the constant stream of novelty is enough to make even the most seasoned editor feel like her wardrobe is already behind.
And yet, if we’re honest, most of us fall into the same rhythm: we rely on a few trusty staples year after year, only to realise they start to feel a little tired. Then, in the search for updates, we buy into trend-led pieces that spark excitement at first but quickly lose their edge after just a few wears. It’s this cycle that makes me sit up and take notice when a collection comes along that feels different, when it’s comprised of pieces that are less about chasing the season and more about redefining what a long-term wardrobe essential can be.
That’s exactly why Mango’s Selection has consistently stood out to me. I’ve always relied on Mango for timeless yet directional fashion, but the Selection takes that to another level. Each drop has the feeling of being quietly luxurious; those pieces you reach for because they feel elevated without ever trying too hard. And when another editor with a different personal style gravitates towards the same items I do, that’s when I know we’re onto something. These aren’t just seasonal basics; they’re the kind of clothes and accessories that expand the idea of a capsule wardrobe, designed to work across occasions, seasons and years.
The new autumn/winter edition of the Selection drop is a perfect example. Instead of offering more of the same, it rethinks what “wardrobe essentials” really means for the cooler months. Sharp tailoring, thoughtful fabrics and minimal but impactful details make up the collection, creating pieces that feel equally right for now and will continue to do so for autumns to come. The colour palette is restrained but modern—grey tones, soft pinks and rich browns—whilst the textures, from leather to wool, are tactile and long-lasting.
To show just how versatile the new collection is, I turned to Rebecca Rhys-Evans, our senior fashion and beauty editor for branded content, to style four different looks from the Selection collection. Despite having expensive taste (which she herself admits), she is a seasoned Mango stan, and Mango’s Selection is one of her favourite premium edits on the high street.
“Mango has been killing it for a couple of years, and I look forward to the Selection’s edit season after season. Curated, contemporary and cool, I always know I will find something that will slot into everyday life, but be just a little different to the usual staple suspects. This season is no exception, and possibly one of the strongest yet, with cashmere knits, leather bombers and trending accessories, as well as a lot of matching sets—a big trend for autumn/winter 2025,” she says.

Style Notes: Rebecca’s first outfit captures that effortlessly cool Scandi aesthetic we’re already seeing everywhere this autumn. At first glance, it’s a classic layered look: a white shirt under a fine cashmere knit and finished with a supple leather jacket, but it’s the proportion and styling that make it feel directional and a little different. The longer line of the skirt grounds the outfit, whilst the textural mix between cashmere and leather adds interest without veering into overdone territory.
Accessories play an equally important role here: the quilted leather bag and balaclava not only feel very of-the-moment, but also add an understated practicality. The result is a look that’s rooted in functionality but feels incredibly current and that you’ll want to repeat on cold mornings all season long.

Style Notes: This second look just feels like autumn in an outfit. The straight-leg jeans provide a clean base, whilst the oversized T-shirt offsets the structure of a cropped suede jacket layered over the top.
“One of my favourite things about this collection is the colour-drenching possibilities. Having several pieces in the same hue is such an easy way to create strong, confident ensembles that require little thought. Of course, you can then wear them with pieces in other colours, but this styling trick is one I rely on time and again, and it can really level up some pretty simple, staple pieces,” says Rebecca.
It’s proof that wardrobe basics don’t need to be boring; texture, proportion and thoughtful footwear choices are what give dimension and add interest. This look could easily carry you from day to evening without needing to change a single piece.

The crystal-embellished, open-back dress is already full of drama, but styled with knee-high leather boots, it takes on a whole new personality. Instead of leaning into the obvious glamour of the dress, the boots give it an edge, creating an evening outfit that feels cool and confident rather than expected.

Style Notes: The final outfit might be my favourite for its quiet sophistication. The cream V-neck sweater paired with satin trousers creates an elegant silhouette, but it’s the accessories that transform it into something special.
“People often mistake cream (and white) as strictly summer colours, but I couldn’t disagree more! I think the key to making them autumn/winter-friendly is texture. Mixing a satin pant like this with a heavy-duty knit and some cosy accessories is all you need to make paler shades a viable winter option. I actually consider satin or silk trousers a capsule-wardrobe essential, because they’re an easy win for party season with heels and a cute top, or styled like this for work or weekends. Win-win,” comments Rebecca.
With the knitted shawl draped loosely over the shoulders, leather gloves that peek out subtly and a structured bag, the look is elevated into something that feels far more expensive than the sum of its parts. The muted colour palette of winter whites and soft neutrals only adds to that effect. There’s also something nostalgic about the addition of the scarf, which ties the whole outfit together in a way that feels both thoughtful and effortless. It’s a reminder that sometimes the smallest styling details have the biggest impact.
