CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has found investigators are coming up with more questions than answers as they look into a report of shots fired near a Cleveland councilman.
At about 10:10 a.m. Friday morning, Cleveland police responded to a call for shots fired in the 10800 block of Magnolia Drive.
We learned it happened as Councilman Kevin Conwell was walking in the neighborhood with a friend.
Police initially did not identify any suspects or vehicles involved.
Friday evening, multiple sources shared with the I-Team that Conwell said someone fired three shots towards him.
Investigators are still gathering evidence and looking for witnesses as well as any security video that will help give them more information on what happened.
The I-Team called Conwell numerous times but have not heard back.
Councilman Michael Polensek sent the following statement:
“I spoke with Councilman Conwell, today. He was out canvassing this morning with a friend near the VA Medical Facility in the University Circle area when allegedly shots were fired in his vicinity. That is all I am at liberty to say at this time for this is under investigation by the Cleveland Police (CPD).
“Councilman Conwell is a dear friend, an outstanding member of City Council and a true community activist. I was just with him last evening at his home with is family and friends.
“To say the least, I am extremely upset to learn this. I am assured that CPD will investigate this thoroughly and update Councilman Conwell and my office.”
