‘I don’t think it needs me’: Star’s hard denial about iconic role

It’s been a long decade since Radcliffe last played Harry Potter, during which time he’s acted on stage and screen.

But as for whether he’s keen to return to his career-defining role? That would be a hard no.

Being asked whether he’d return as Harry Potter in the upcoming new Harry Potter TV series, Radcliffe denied any interest in starring in the new project in any capacity, not even as a cameo.

He told ComicBook.com, “My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.

Neither does he wish to appear in the new iteration, stating definitively, “I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way.

“But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

The series is currently under development and is expected to air on streaming service HBO Max, with new actors taking up the roles of the golden trio – Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Now 33, he has starred in the television series Miracle Workers and recently starred as the villain in the adventure comedy film The Lost City, opposite Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

He has been in a relationship with actress Erin Darke, 38, whom he met on the set of Kill Your Darlings, since 2012. They recently welcomed their first baby in April, yesterday revealing that the baby is a boy.

Nine Entertainment Co (the publisher of this website) owns and operates the streaming service Stan.
