Hyatt Reveals 2023 Award Category Changes
World of Hyatt revealed today its 2023 award category changes. This is when Hyatt tries adjusts the pricing for properties in its portfolio to better reflect their value.
This year Hyatt will make changes to about 372 hotels, including Small Luxury Hotels of the World and resorts in Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection. These hotels will shift to different award category in late-March. The changes are plenty of negative changes, but at least there are no additional categories and the points required for each category in both charts remain the same.
2023 Hyatt Award Category Changes
Effective as of Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. CDT, World of Hyatt members will see updates made to the number of points required for a free night at 372 hotels. 158 properties will shift to a lower award category and 214 hotels will shift to a higher award category.
If you plan to use a Category 1-7 Award Night, now it’s time to reserve ahead of March 28 as nine Hyatt properties will move into Category 8. That includes Park Hyatt Zurich, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa, and others. Some hotels will be out of reach for Category 1-4 Award Night redemptions as well, such as The Eliza Jane in New Orleans or the Thompson Madrid.
There’s also bad news for the Inclusive Collection. Seven resorts represented on the all-inclusive Award Chart will shift to Category D and one will shift to Category E, representing the first resorts to be included in those respective categories.
Some notable mentions that will become more affordable include Stonebridge Inn, a Destination by Hyatt Residence, Thompson Washington D.C., Hyatt Regency Cologne, and Hyatt Place Kyoto will shift down in category.

What You Need to Know
- All free night award and Points + Cash redemptions booked before 8:00 am CDT on Tuesday, March 28 will follow the current Award Chart regardless of stay dates, even if the hotel is shifting to a higher award category.
- However, members who have existing award or Points + Cash bookings as of 8:00 am CDT on Tuesday, March 28 for a night on or after Tuesday, March 28 at a Hyatt hotel that moved down to a lower category, will receive an automatic one-time refund on the point difference. Points will be returned to members’ accounts starting Tuesday, March 28.
- Any free night award and Points + Cash redemptions booked on or after 8:00 am CDT on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, will follow the new Award Chart.
- Once changes go into effect on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. CDT, any adjustments made to existing reservations will follow the terms of the new Award Chart.

2023 Hyatt Award Category Changes: Guru’s Wrap-up
Normally when we see these annual award category changes, we expect more properties moving up. But for 2023, Hyatt’s changes are worse than usual.
214 hotels will shift to a higher award category, while only 158 will shift down. Lots of properties are moving to a Category 8, putting them out of reach for those looking to redeem free night awards. The are also some massive negative changes to the all-inclusive properties.
But at least you still have time to book properties at the current pricing before the changes go into effect later this month.
