(FOX40.COM) — Major tech company Intel is laying off more than 200 employees by November.
Intel issued the notice on Oct. 15 to the California Employment Development Department (EDD), that 272 employees from their Folsom campus will be laid off by Nov. 15.
In an email to FOX40.com Intel stated, “These are the most difficult decisions we ever make, and we are treating people with care and respect. These changes support our strategy to become a leaner, simpler and more agile company as we position Intel for long-term sustainable growth.”
Intel opened its Folsom location in 1984 for semiconductor production along with other products and employs several thousand people, according to the Greater Sacramento Economic Council.
Previous Layoffs
This is the second round of layoffs made at the Folsom campus within the last year.
Around Dec. 28, some 230 employees were laid off from the Folsom plant, marking almost 750 employees laid off from the Sacramento County location in 2023.
In August, the company announced they would be cutting 15%, about 15,000 jobs, from its total workforce to better compete with fellow tech companies.
