How to Backup SCVMM Database to a Windows Share

Read this guide to learn how to use the built-in backup tool to back up System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) DB to a Windows Share.

Step 1: Create a Windows Share

You must create and share a folder to back up SCVMM to a Windows share. Then, grant the SCVMM SQL Server AD computer object Full Control to the share.

Step 2: Backup SCVMM Database

Alternatively, open PowerShell on the SCVMM server and run the command below to complete the same task:

Backup-SCVMMServer -Path "\IPMpHPV4SCVMMBackup"

The backup creates a “.bak” file which is the file extension for a Microsoft SQL database backup.
