How to avoid problems when taking DMV's online driver's test

DENVER (KDVR) — New technology is making it easier and faster to get your driver’s license, but problems can arise.

Amanda Bryan told FOX31 her daughter receives a suspicious activity warning each time she tries to take the Department of Motor Vehicles @HOME online driver’s test.

“They’re coming up with five different items for why you could be failing it,” she told FOX31.

The Problem Solvers reached out to the DMV. The staff did not say this is a widespread problem but quickly investigated Bryan’s case. They found that Bryan’s daughter’s face was not properly recognized by the system, so an anti-fraud security alert was triggered.

“One of the many fraud prevention tools built into the @home driving knowledge test is face detection software, where the program captures a photo of the test taker prior to starting and at various times throughout the test,” the DMV told FOX31. “If the system is unable to capture a recognizable photo or does not recognize the tester as the same person, the tester may be disqualified after several warnings.”

Bryan told FOX31 her daughter followed all of the rules and guidelines. The DMV said they will continue to look into her case.

What factors can affect @HOME driving test?

Other factors that can affect an at home test include moving the cursor outside of the browser window, leaving the exam window for any amount of time and resizing the window during the test.

DMV customers must acknowledge that they read the guidelines.

The DMV said “multiple warnings are given before a test is disqualified, but infractions can be combined to result in a disqualification. Customers must agree to the rules and requirements before beginning the test.”

The DMV explains that security protocols are in place that protect all drivers.

“We continuously evaluate how to balance convenience with test integrity and fraud prevention to ensure that only qualified drivers are on the road,” the DMV said.
