Police say the eggs were poached by two men using a car stolen from the Metropolitan Police Department.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — Two men are facing charges after police say they used a car stolen from the Metropolitan Police Department to take 60 dozen eggs from outside a Takoma Park store.

According to the Takoma Park Police Department, 21-year-old Luis Thompson-Jones from D.C., 32-year-old Jesus Juarez-Posadas from Hyattsville, and 25-year-old Joseph Arkong from Hyattsville were arrested on Thursday and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, and multiple active warrants.

Investigators say officers were called to a business on University Boulevard East on Thursday morning after three boxes, containing 720 eggs, were stolen from outside the store. The eggs were valued at more than $800.

Surveillance footage showed a gray Toyota Camry pull up to the store shortly before 7:30 a.m. A person got out of the car and then loaded the boxes of hundreds of eggs into the Camry before driving away.

An officer investigating the theft reportedly recognized the Camry from an earlier patrol in the back parking lot of a hotel on nearby New Hampshire Ave. Investigators went to the parking lot shortly after 2 p.m. and found the same gray Toyota Camry.

When officers ran the registration, they learned the car had actually been reported stolen from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers later detained a man who exited the nearby hotel and got into the reportedly stolen car. Several other people were found inside the hotel room, three of whom were found to have active arrest warrants through Takoma Park and Montgomery County.

Two of the men were connected to the earlier egg theft based on matching clothing and items found inside the car, police said. However, police did not further identify which of the three men was connected to the egg heist.

Additional charges in this investigation include theft-related offenses, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of suspected controlled dangerous substances.
