ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Klay Thompson is signing with the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks do not have cap space, so a sign-and-trade is required to pull that deal off. The Charlotte Hornets have gotten themselves involved in that deal and acquired Josh Green from the Mavericks.

The full details of the deal have not been specified yet.

Green has spent all four years of his career on the Mavericks after they made him the 18th overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft. He’s a very good athlete that’s developed into a very good 3-point shooter that’s served in spot start duty for the Mavericks in the last two seasons. He averaged 8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 38.5% from three last season.

He’ll join a Hornets team that is still looking for help on the wing. There will be a lot of competition for minutes between Green, Tre Mann, and Cody Martin (if healthy). He’s under contract for the next three seasons at $12.6, $13.6, and $14.6 million.

UPDATE: Woj is adding to the original report that the Hornets are sending out two second round picks as part of the deal.
