Hornets sign third two-way player, finalize opening day roster – At The Hive

[ad_1]

The Charlotte Hornets filled out and finalized their roster on the eve of NBA opening night, as the rules state they have to. Part of that was using the team’s third two-way slot, which had been open all offseason. Instead of using that tool to retain a player that was in camp with the team, they signed Jared Rhoden.

Rhoden was undrafted out of Seton Hall in 2022 but eventually earned himself a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons in the middle of the next season. He’s played the last two seasons on two-way contracts with the Pistons, making 31 mostly sporadic appearances. He played in 11 of the Pistons last 13 games last season and averaged six points per game while making 40% of his 3-point attempts. He’s a 40% 3-point shooter across 41 G League appearances as well. He’ll wear number 27 for the Hornets because why not.

Rhoden joins KJ Simpson and Moussa Diabate on two-way contracts. The trio will spend most of their time with the Swarm but will occasionally get recalled to practice with the team and hang out on the bench in case the team needs to go super deep on a night where players are out.

With the addition of Rhoden, the Hornets have their full 18 man roster–the three two ways along with the regular 15 man roster.

There isn’t much to talk about here. We all knew what the final roster was going to be outside of Rhoden taking the last two-way spot. The only mild surprise is that the team hung onto DaQuan Jeffries since it felt like he was only here to allow the Karl-Anthony Towns trade to happen, but he’s on a guaranteed $2.75 million contract, so might as well keep him around unless something better comes along.
