Hornets news and notes from the past week or so – At The Hive

[ad_1]

The NBA world moves on to the second round of the postseason while teams like the Charlotte Hornets exist in the background preparing to try to one day be good enough to be playing basketball this time of year. Nothing crazy has gone on, but the Hornets have popped up in the news a few times since the last time something was posted on this site (I’ll explain in the comments).

Brandon Miller finished third in rookie of the year voting

Miller never had any shot at winning rookie of the year being in a rookie class with Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. The former received all 99 of the first place votes while the latter received 98 of 99 second place votes. The one second place vote that didn’t go to Holmgren? Well that went to our very own Brandon Miller. He also received 86 third place, so he finished as a comfortable bronze medalist.

LaMelo Ball got a giant tattoo

Ball added to his ink collection with more ink that is a lot like if not exactly the same as some of the other ink he has. That said, it looks pretty cool, in my opinion.

JJ REdick and Charles Lee seem to be the finalists for the Hornets head coaching job

Charles Lee has been a staple in head coaching searches for a few years while JJ Redick is trying to make the jump from TV to the coaching world. Both are reportedly targets of the Lakers as well, so the Hornets have competition for their guy (though at this point the Lakers job has to almost be unappealing). BetCarolina has Lee with Redick and David Adelman tied for the second best odds. I’d be cool with either one, but I’d like to see the Hornets get their guy before someone else can swoop in and poach them.

Awful Announcing ranked the Hornets commentary crew fifth best in the league

There isn’t any reasoning given for the rankings, but the article does say that the average grade given to the Hornets was an A. Most of the teams ahead of the Hornets have play by play guys that also have national gigs (Knicks and Mike Breen, Nets and Ian/Noah Eagle, Bulls and Adam Amin). It’s nice to see that the nation has taken notice of how great a crew the Hornets have had calling their games.
