ONTD please join me in being hooked on a new reality competition show from Netflix.
Twelve people compete to win a prize pot of up to 500 million won (google currency converter tells me this is $369,866.45 USD). The twelve competitors are made up of 10 public figures (of varying degrees of fame- lol we have k-pop idol Seungkwan from Seventeen but also Yeon-woo who is a professional Go player) + 2 normies who made it onto the show via an open casting call.
The basic structure of the show is that there are main matches and prize matches. Every player receives one Piece (heh… One Piece) at the beginning of the show and these Pieces serve as currency throughout the show. You can earn Pieces through the games and sometimes spend them in order to gain advantages and also trade them with other players outside of gameplay. However, you can also lose them through the games. If you lose all your Pieces, you are eliminated.
Each main match is followed by a prize task. The main matches consist of games that rely on strategies, alliances and… BETRAYALS! After the main match, players can be eliminated or sent to prison. The remaining players then participate in the prize match which are always challenges in which all the players have to work as a team. LOL I LOVE IT. Like 2 hours after you’ve betrayed someone or tried to get someone eliminated, you have to work together with them in order to earn money for the prize pot.
Please give this show a shot, ONTD. The games might seem confusing at first, but trust me that you’ll understand how they work as you watch the game play and it’ll become clear how cleverly the games are constructed. There are also fun secrets and puzzles outside of the actual games. The final 3 episodes drop on Netflix on Tuesday, so use this weekend to catch up!
