CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office held its annual appreciation dinner and awards ceremony, recognizing those who contribute to community safety efforts.
The event recognized coordinators, resident partners, and agency allies who have worked to address quality-of-life and crime issues while fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.
Eddie Caisse from the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the importance of trust and communication, stating, “By those relationships and the levels of trust that are there, we got more and more people within the neighborhoods that are actually calling the police not just 911 or the non-emergency number, but actually calling the police for things that are happening in the community.”
The Holyoke Safe Neighborhood Initiative has been credited with a significant reduction in crime, with a report indicating a 48 percent decline in simple assaults in Holyoke and Chicopee between 2017 and 2021.
