Halloween Happenings: Pittsfield's "It's Alive!" brings family fun, music, and spooky magic

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Downtown Pittsfield will come alive with tricks and treats on Saturday, October 18, at the annual “Downtown Pittsfield… It’s Alive!” celebration.

The free, day-long event, hosted by Downtown Pittsfield Inc., will be filled with activities for families, teens, and everyone in between.

The event will feature three parts:

  • Kid’s Zone (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on the St. Joseph’s Church lawn
  • Night Circus (3 to 6 p.m.) at Dunham Mall, School Street, and the connecting portion of North Street
  • Depot After Dark: Teen Dance Party Edition (7 to 9:30 p.m.) on Liberty Street

The Kids’ Zone will feature a bounce house, Halloween crafts, games, face painting, balloon twisting, giveaways, live entertainment, and more. Costumes are encouraged. Performers include Bowey the Clown and Magic Brushes from BTC Family Entertainment, a live DJ, and Opal Raven Cirque, with variety shows at 11 a.m. and noon.

Hands-on activities include a Halloween Paint & Sip, a ghost pull art project with the Berkshire Art Center, and the Berkshire Museum’s Mobile Museum Unit with dinosaur bone blocks for kids.

Additional free activities will be hosted at the following locations:

  • Berkshire Athenaeum
  • Berkshire County Head Start/Pittsfield CFCE
  • Berkshire District Attorney’s Office
  • Berkshire Music School
  • Foster MA/Adopt MA
  • Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum
  • The Berkshire County Kids’ Place.

From 3 to 6 p.m., the Night Circus transforms downtown into a Halloween carnival of music, fire, art, and food. Live ska and punk rock performances, curated by 413ska, will feature Carson Daly, City Train, Datura, and HardCar.

Fire performer Jesse M. Thomas of Last Ember will perform fiery stunts on School Street at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., while Emily Dunsay Wild will offer free three-card tarot readings at 90 North Studio. Food and drinks will be available from Flavourful Bites, HAND CRAFTED Catering, Cookie’s Cupcakes, and a Hot Plate Brewing Co. beer garden.

Vendors curated by Jake Seeley of Bomb Shack Vintage will line the streets with art and merchandise.

The fun continues into the evening with Depot After Dark: Teen Dance Party Edition, open to Berkshire County high school students with a valid school ID. The event will take place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Liberty Street between Tito’s/Wander and Crawford Square.

The dance party, a collaboration between Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. and Wander Berkshires, will feature a live DJ, free glitter and glow face paint from VonBowtie Face Painting, and beverages available for purchase from Wander. Costumes are encouraged, though masks are not allowed. Adult chaperones will be present to ensure a safe environment.

All events in “Downtown Pittsfield… It’s Alive!” are free and open to the public, with activities designed to bring the community together for a day of creativity, fun, and Halloween excitement.
