GREENWICH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A community is standing together this evening in Greenwich, after a devastating car accident left a high school student fighting for his life. Family, friends and neighbors gathered for a hope ceremony for Garrett Heath at Mowry Park on Monday evening.

Garrett Heath, a junior in high school, was in a serious car accident on August 24th, and he has been in the hospital ever since. The community gathered with candles, prayers, and messages of hope and they filled Mowry Park to show Garrett and his family that they are not alone.

David Jensen, Garrett’s Uncle, said that the support around them has been getting them through this difficult time. He went on to say, “Since day one, we’ve felt the love and the support, and it’s. It’s helped us. It’s kept us strong. And we appreciate everybody. And everyone has done something, whether it’s prayers, donations, whatever. We’re just very, very thankful and can’t even put into words how much appreciation we have.”

Garrett’s older brother Zachery said that Garrett is the kind of person you always want by your side, adding, “He’s a funny kid, good kid, means well. Cares about everyone’s feelings, loves everyone, friends with everyone, you know, doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He’s just a charming kid to be around all the time. And, you know, everyone loves him.”

Garrett’s family is asking the community to continue keeping Garrett in their thoughts as he remains in stable but critical condition. They also said that they’re deeply grateful to the first responders and medical staff who have been by Garrett’s side every step of the way.
