(KRON) — Toll prices to drive across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge are increasing this summer. The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District Board of Directors approved a new toll increase that will go into effect on July 1, the public transit agency said in a news release Friday.
Most customers (drivers of two-axle vehicles) will see an increase of $0.50 from the current rate of $9.75. Starting this July, the toll invoice will be $10.25. FasTrak drivers, who currently pay $8.75 to cross the bridge, will start paying $9.25 when the toll hike goes into effect.
The toll increase will be $0.50 starting every July for the next five years until 2028, which, officials say, will raise approximately $139 million over five years.

The toll increase will support a new five-year toll program that will provide funding for “bridge operations and maintenance and bus and ferry transit services,” officials said. The Golden Gate Bridge is currently facing a $220 million five-year deficit based on the current transit service levels and ongoing costs to maintain the bridge.
