HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Hyundai Motor America and the Baystate Health Foundation hosted their third annual car seat safety check event at Gary Rome Hyundai in Holyoke.

The event aimed to educate parents and guardians on the importance of proper car seat installation and safety checks. Child passenger safety technicians were on hand to teach attendees how to check their children’s car seats for recalls and ensure they fit correctly.

“If they don’t, the results are travesty and traumatic,” said Gary Rome, President and CEO of Gary Rome Auto Group. “It doesn’t take us long to do this. We have six stations here, we have over 25 people coming in and walk-ins to have their car seats checked.”

Lt. Maria Pelchar of the Holyoke Fire Department noted, “It usually takes us five to 15 minutes to install a car seat and it allows us to make sure your child is safe.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlights the significance of proper car seat use, stating that it can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

Event organizers stressed the importance of not overlooking car seat safety, emphasizing that ensuring a safe car seat is crucial for child safety. For those who missed the event, local fire departments offer car seat checks to ensure child safety on the road.
