Royal Guests and Relatives from around Europe joined the extended British Royal Family for the Funeral of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on this day in 1981, 45 years ago.
The Funeral of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, the last surviving grandchild of Queen Victoria, was held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, presided over by her daughter, Lady May, and Sir Henry Abel Smith.

Princess Alice was buried at the Royal Burial Ground, Frogmore, in Windsor Great Park. Her grave is located directly behind the Royal Mausoleum of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, where she lies alongside her husband, Alexander Cambridge, 1st Earl of Athlone, and their son, Rupert, Viscount Trematon
Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and Princess Olga of Yugoslavia were among the Royal Guests and Relatives spotted alongside Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother, and Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. King Olav V of Norway and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden were also reportedly in attendance according to news reports.
Queen Elizabeth Il and other members of the British Royal Family attended, along with many other royals, including King Olav of Norway, King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, former Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, and her brother’s son, Prince Friedrich of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
