GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Franklin County Community Meals Program held its Bonus Bag Brigade Sunday afternoon.
Families stopped by the Greenfield Second Congregational Church and dropped off non-perishables in brown lunch bags which will eventually go to those in need, no questions asked.
The organization distributes around 3,500 bags every year, and the board president of the Franklin County Community Meals Program told 22News that fighting food insecurity, especially in Franklin County, is so important.
“With events like these we try to give people the extra help that they need,” said Fardeen Chowdhury. “There’s always stigma about not being able to provide enough food for your family and we’re trying to fight that stigma by saying you know what, saying being hungry is not a crime.”
The Franklin County Community Meals Program serves a weekly community hot meal at the church and will utilize the bags to provide patrons a non-perishable meal to go.
