Girls flag football teams from four schools in Prince William County kicked off their seasons in style ─ at the Commanders indoor practice facility in Ashburn.

ASHBURN, Va. — Girls flag football teams from Battlefield, Brentsville, Gar-Field, and Osbourn Park made history on Tuesday, playing their first-ever games in program history.

These four teams got to play their inaugural games at the BigBear.ai Performance Center.

Some special guests included honorary coaches like former Washington players like running back Brian Mitchell and wide receiver Santana Moss. Head Coach Dan Quinn also made an appearance to support the teams.

Moss told us his daughter plays flag football too, and it’s been neat to see the sport grow.

“Flag football has taken this world by storm,” he said excitedly.

Brentsville won the opening game against Battlefield. Head Coach Eugene Baltimore was ecstatic about the opportunity to play at the Commanders facility.

“This is huge!” he explained, “we look forward to the younger generation to keep this thing moving.”

Gar-Field beat Osbourn Park in the final matchup. The players were happy with their efforts.

“Coming from a school that isn’t really known, it feels great to win and show that we can also do what guys can do,” one player said.

“It’s not just a personal effort but everybody did their best and that’s all that matters. I feel like we all put in the effort and we just won!” another exclaimed.

But every single girl we spoke to was proud of the history and statement she was making.

“Never let nobody tell you that you can’t do it cuz you can,” one Gar-Field player explained.

“Don’t be scared. Be aggressive, have fun! It’s all for the love of the game,” said Brenstville senior Ava Garza.

Moss says he hopes these girls came away knowing that anything is possible.

“I mean if you can believe it, you can do it,” he said.
