DENVER (KDVR) — On Tuesday, a former Colorado social worker pleaded guilty to multiple felonies after faking a cancer diagnosis to avoid prosecution.
According to the district attorney, Robin Niceta, 42, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to influence a public servant and two counts of second-degree forgery as well as a count of forgery, tampering with physical evidence and criminal impersonation.
The judge will sentence Niceta on Jan. 17, 2025.
Niceta charged with false reports of child sexual abuse
Niceta was originally facing charges after she made an anonymous tip in 2022 falsely accusing Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky of sexually abusing her son.
The DA’s office said Jurinsky was cleared of any wrongdoing and Niceta was charged with attempting to influence a public servant and making a false child abuse report – a case that came to a halt when she told the court she had a brain tumor.
However, Niceta was then accused of falsifying medical records after Niceta’s oncologist was nowhere to be found, and the provided MRI images were stock images of glioblastoma and were found with a basic Google image search of the word “glioblastoma,” prosecutors say.
“It’s absurd that a former social worker entrusted to protect children maliciously attempted to tear a family apart with false accusations against another public official,” District Attorney John
Kellner said. “Her actions were spiteful, vindictive, and wasted numerous county resources. I
believe her nefarious conduct warrants additional time in the Department of Corrections.”
Last year, Niceta was found guilty of a felony count of attempting to influence a public servant and a misdemeanor count of filing a false child abuse report.
