Freak on a Beach cocktail (Dark rum, Chinola Mango, peach liqueur, and pineapple)

With a tongue-in-cheek name, Floridaman is a dive bar set atop BeltLine seafood shack Breaker Breaker. Set to open this month, the adults-only spot features a relaxed vibe with low-brow beach drinks and a limited food menu. “It’s meant to be more chill, but very irreverent,” says general manager Hannah Keller. “It’s a hangout spot.”

Compared to Breaker Breaker, which seats 300 guests, Floridaman is tiny, accommodating a mere 50. Expect bright colors, bold patterns, neon lights, and parrots “everywhere,” she says. “It’s visually loud—halfway between Trader Vic’s and Margaritaville in terms of aesthetic.” Booths provide cozy alcoves for small groups to congregate, while barstools look out over the BeltLine. The space is covered with both heat and fans available. All materials used—including flooring—are designed for boating to survive the Georgia humidity.

Keller created the beverage menu for Floridaman, as well as Breaker Breaker, featuring “trashy drinks made more classy,” according to Keller. The drinks are named after what she calls “divorce dad rock” from the early 2000s. Freak on a Beach is a riff on Sex on the Beach, and I Wanna Be Sedated is a spin on a Painkiller. The two most popular Breaker Breaker drinks—Lot Lizard Spritz (limoncello, basil, bubbles, and soda water) and Vaya Con Dios (Tanteo habanero tequila, passion fruit liqueur, and lime juice)—will be available as well. A slushie machine will spin alcoholic frozen drinks. There will be boxed and canned wine and cans of beer, too.

A pared down food menu features Breaker Breaker signatures such as the cabbage and crispy rice salad, grouper sandwich, and a selection of dips. A Cuban sandwich called “the Floridaman” is comprised of ham, chicken, and salami on a panini.

Floridaman will be open on Friday evenings and all day on weekends. It was also open for viewing major sporting events.
