Trading one spotlight for another! Before Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in May 2018, she spent time at star-studded Hollywood functions, including the Golden Globes.
The Suits alum stepped out for the 70th annual event in 2013 and danced the night away at NB’s afterparty. She turned heads on the red carpet in a sparkly dark dress before enjoying the evening with her then-costars, including Patrick J. Adams and Gina Torres.
For seven seasons, Meghan portrayed driven paralegal Rachel Zane on the USA Network legal drama. She exited the show in late 2017, as her real-life romance with Harry grew more serious.
The pair announced their engagement in November 2017 and tied the knot in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle six months later. More major milestones followed, including the birth of their son, Archie, in May 2019.
In January 2020, the couple announced their decision to step back as senior royals, citing negative media attention and racism as partial reasons for their decision.
“We have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the Sussexes wrote via Instagram at the time. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. … We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”
Meghan and Harry later relocated to California, where they welcomed daughter Lilibet in June 2021. The little one’s birth came three months after the Sussexes explosive CBS interview, during which they spoke about their struggles in the U.K. The Archewell cofounders opened up further in their December 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, sharing details about their courtship, the time they spent in the “small” Nottingham Cottage and Harry’s strained relationship with his brother, Prince William.
Harry also spoke about the tension between himself and William in his memoir, Spare, which hit shelves in January 2023. The BetterUp CIO revealed in a 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper at the time that he and the Prince of Wales are “not in touch.”
