Around 5:20 p.m., a CHP officer attempted to conduct an enforcement stop after a vehicle was speeding northbound on State Route 149. While the driver initially moved toward the right shoulder to yield, the car suddenly bolted toward the center median and began driving southbound on SR-149.
CHP explained that the suspect entered northbound State Route 70 before making another U-turn in the median to travel southbound on SR-70, reaching speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. The suspect exited the highway at Garden Drive, where he lost control of the car while trying to drive up a steep hillside.
After the vehicle was disabled, the suspect fled on foot, and CHP officers and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office established a perimeter. CHP reported that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident after being found with the assistance of a K-9 unit, the Sheriff’s helicopter, and reports from passing motorists.
The suspect was booked into the Butte County Jail for an outstanding federal felony arrest warrant, drug possession and felony evading, according to CHP.
The suspect’s identity has yet to be released by CHP.
