CLEVELAND (WJW) — In news that’s certain to make you itch all over, the pest control company Orkin found Cleveland is home to some of the highest-reported infestation rates of two blood-sucking creatures.

The facts seem to point to both mosquitos and bed bugs feasting mightily on Clevelanders. For Orkin’s Top 50 Mosquito Cities and Top 50 Bed Bug Cities 2025 lists, Cleveland landed in the Top 10.

The following data is based on the amount of times Orkin was called in for residential mosquito treatments between April of last year and March 2025. Here are the Top 10 cities.

  1. Los Angeles
  2. Chicago (+1)
  3. New York (-1)
  4. Atlanta (+1)
  5. Detroit (+5)
  6. Houston
  7. Dallas (-3)
  8. Washington, D.C. (-1)
  9. Cleveland (+10)

When it comes to bed bugs, which were nearly extinct in this country for decades, Ohio is clearly struggling. Not only is Cleveland No. 2 on Orkin’s most-reported list, but Columbus is No. 8 and Cincinnati was ranked at 13.

Here are the top 10 cities calling in for bed bug treatments from May of last year to May of this:

  1. Chicago
  2. Cleveland (+2)
  3. Detroit (+3)
  4. Los Angeles (+1)
  5. Indianapolis (+3)
  6. Washington, D.C. (+1)
  7. Grand Rapids, Mich. (+7)
  8. Columbus, Ohio (+3)
  9. Champaign, Ill. (+1)
  10. Milwaukee (+15)

Mosquitoes carry diseases, while bed bugs do not. Both are, well, pests. Having large swarms of mosquitoes in your yard or having bed bugs in your home does not mean you are dirty, Orkin confirms, but rather that they have a nice food source nearby.

However, once you know you have a problem, it’s time to get help. Find out much more about getting rid of mosquitoes here and bed bug control right here.
