Notoriously difficult music and a monument to Bach’s genius.

On November 13-16, led by Artistic Director Patrick Dupre Quigley, Seraphic Fire and their period orchestra will perform Bach’s six motets; some of the most challenging and rewarding works in choral repertoire. For Seraphic Fire, these pieces are also foundational, shaping their approach to Bach and defining their sound over more than two decades.

This marks only the third time Seraphic Fire has presented the complete cycle of motets in its 23-year history. The motets are full of contrasts—joyful, mournful, meditative, and exhilarating. They are at once spiritual offerings and technical showcases, stretching performers while captivating listeners. Patrick Quigley described listening to these six motets as “a compendium of everything that makes Bach endlessly fascinating.”

Program Includes:

Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied, BWV 225

Der Geist hilft unsrer Schwachheit auf, BWV 226

Jesu meine Freude, BWV 227

Fürchte dich nicht, ich bin bei dir, BWV 228

Komm, Jesu, komm, BWV 229

Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, BWV 230
