The White House budget office said today that mass firings of federal workers have started in an attempt to exert more pressure on Democratic lawmakers as the government shutdown continues.

5. Guilty verdict returned for man in Dover killing of woman and her daughter
A Hillsborough County jury recommended the death penalty this week for a man convicted of killing his girlfriend and her 4-year-old daughter in a Dover mobile home.

6. Israeli military says ceasefire takes effect in Gaza, raising hopes for ending the war
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect in Gaza today, the military said, hours after Israel’s Cabinet approved a deal to pause the fighting and exchange the remaining hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

• TRAFFIC ALERT | All lanes on West Swann Avenue are closed between South Audubon Avenue and South Habana Avenue while the Tampa Water Department conducts maintenance on the water distribution system. There will be barricades and signs in the area to help reroute traffic. The work is expected to be completed with a return to normal traffic patterns by 4 p.m. Monday, weather permitting.
