New details in an ITEAM investigation into a Durham foundation accused of not paying its employees. A new lawsuit was filed this week in Durham County against CJF America.
The Thompson sisters filed this lawsuit and seek unpaid wages. ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson first talked to Briana, Jasmine, and Kalisa Thompson in July when they worked for CJF America’s summer camp in Durham as camp counselors, but said they didn’t get paid. The sisters showed us these paychecks, which they say the bank wouldn’t cash due to the funds in the account not being verified.
New details emerge in an ABC11 Troubleshooter investigation in a Triangle-based organization, CJF America Inc.
The I-Team first reported on CJF and its issues with employee payments in July. The foundation ran summer camps in Durham and Raleigh, and workers said they didn’t get paid.
Besides the Thompson sisters’ lawsuit, another lawsuit was filed against CJF by other employees for unpaid wages.
The founder, Courtney Jordan, and the CFO are also facing criminal charges of felony conspiracy and obtaining property under false pretenses. Those warrants remain unserved.
The ITEAM is also following the cases against CJF President Kristen Picot. In August, she told Wilson that all employees would get paid.
After our stories, we have only heard from one camp counselor who got a portion of what he says he is owed. Picot is facing several worthless checks charges and is due in court on Thursday.
We have tried to get a response from CJF for more than a month, but no one has responded.
