CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Elms College is hosting a hands-on cleanup along the Connecticut River this Friday, encouraging students and community members to create positive change and improve the environment.
The event is organized by the Elms’ Division of Natural Sciences, Math and Technology as part of the Connecticut River Conservancy’s annual Source to Sea Cleanup. Those interested are invited to join Elms students, faculty, and staff in cleaning the riverbank of trash and debris from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
“Our part will take place right in our own community, where the Chicopee River joins the
Connecticut River,” said Dr. Nina Theis, co-chair of the Elms’ Division of Natural Sciences, Math and Technology. “Elms College students will work alongside volunteers across the region to help keep the river clean, protect wildlife, and enhance recreational opportunities, contributing to a healthier and more beautiful environment for everyone.”
Participants will meet at the Chicopee Boat Launch at the end of Medina Street, where coffee and breakfast snacks will be served. Elms College will provide gloves, trash bags, and grabbers to all volunteers. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, and sturdy shoes, and bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water.
