Elk Grove surveys residents for input on new homeless shelter location

Elk Grove seeks community input through a survey for its permanent homeless shelter development.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — The City of Elk Grove is looking for some community input as they work on developing a permanent homeless shelter.

To that end, the city started a short survey to rank what criteria people find important as they search for a site. Officials said the feedback will help the project line up with community needs, concerns and values.

In June, the Elk Grove City Council approved a contract with NJA Architecture to work on designing and identifying a location for a permanent shelter.

According to the City of Elk Grove, that project will have opportunities for community engagement, will incorporate a full continuum of supportive services and will be integrated into its surroundings.

The survey from the city says the shelter would provide accommodations for up to 25 adults and four families. It will be referral only, with access reserved for residents or people connected to Elk Grove.

The city is seeking input through Oct. 17 for the survey. Click HERE for the survey.

There is currently a year-round shelter for the homeless in Elk Grove that could operate through 2028 while the city works on the permanent site. That site currently provides services for up to 35 people.
