EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The ‘Special Hole’ cornhole tournament was held at the Pulaski Club in Easthampton to raise money for the Hampshire Eagles, a local Special Olympics team.

The event brought together dozens of participants for a day of friendly competition, with all proceeds supporting the Hampshire Eagles as they prepare for an upcoming flag football state tournament.

“It’s a big achievement that I think everyone’s going to enjoy the experience because it was quite an experience for me last year, my first year on flag football,” said Ryan Rentes, a player for the Hampshire Eagles.

The Hampshire Eagles look forward to participating in the flag football state tournament next weekend at Western New England University. If successful, the team will have the opportunity to play at Gillette Stadium on the Patriots’ turf in November.

“Have fun, do your best, and that’s all you can ask for,” said Joseph Desmarais, head coach for the Hampshire Eagles.

Funds raised from the tournament will help cover transportation costs to the stadium and support other sports competitions such as bowling, track and field, floor hockey, and volleyball. The money will also contribute to the team’s annual winter banquet, essential equipment, activities, and uniforms.

“We appreciate this wonderful community, like I said, coming together and supporting me and my entire teammates and the cause itself,” said Hampshire Eagles player Nick Tanguay.

Organizers hope to surpass last year’s fundraising total of $1,400, demonstrating the community’s ongoing support for the team.

The support shown from the ‘Special Hole’ tournament highlights the community’s commitment to the Hampshire Eagles, ensuring they have the resources needed for their upcoming competitions and activities.
