Dutch Fire prompts evacuation orders in Nevada County: 'potential threat to life'

(FOX40.COM) — Several agencies are currently responding to a wildfire that ignited in Nevada County Saturday afternoon.

The fire is being referred to as the Dutch Fire and started around 3:30 p.m. in the Lowell Hill Road and Dutch Flat Powerhouse Road area. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office issued mandatory evacuation orders for Lowell Hill from Dutch Flat Powerhouse to Mule Springs, and the Culberson Road area of Dutch Flat. Deputies are reportedly in the area to assist. Surrounding areas are under evacuation warnings.

Officials said there is a “potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.”

As of 5:45 p.m., the Dutch Fire was at 23 acres burned.
