KANE COUNTY, Ill. (WGN) — A deadly crash shut down part of Interstate 90 in the northwest suburbs Saturday afternoon after an SUV collided with a semi parked on the shoulder.
The crash happened just before 3:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Almora, according to Illinois State Police.
Investigators say the semi was stopped on the right shoulder when, for reasons still unknown, the SUV veered out of traffic and struck it.
The SUV’s driver was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from their injuries. The semi driver was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, and the crash remains under investigation.
