More than 3,000 Duke Energy customers were without power Friday morning in Johnston County east of Clayton. As of 4:30 a.m., that number has gone down to around 280.

The outage is impacting businesses, homes, apartments and schools off NC-42 between Buffalo Road and NC-96 in the Flowers Plantation area.

The Duke Energy Outage map showed a little more than 3,379 customers were without power around 2 a.m. The outage was caused by damage to power lines, but Duke Energy did not clarify as to what the damage was.

The map says power is expected to be fully restored by 5:45 a.m.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker is in the area and saw traffic lights that were out at the intersection of Buffalo Road and NC-42E as well as Flowers Parkway and NC-42E.

At 4:10 a.m., the BNT saw the lights come back on at the intersection.

Thalas Academy and Thanksgiving Elementary schools appear to be impacted by the outage. There were several businesses without power in the area.

WRAL News is working to find out the cause of the damage and when power will be fully restored.
