Don’t fall for claim Trump executive order demanded Universal Music Group sign Lara Trump

[ad_1]

A rumor circulated online in October 2025 that U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing Universal Music Group to sign his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to a “multi-album record deal” because record companies have “prioritized the music of non-Americans” such as Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez.

For example, one social media account posted (archived) a supposed screenshot of the order, captioned: “I thought Jennifer Lopez was from New York.” The image read:

PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

For too long woke Record Companies have prioritized the music of non-Americans such as “Bad Bunny” and “Jennifer Lopez” That’s why today President Trump signed an executive order demanding Universal Music Group sign Lara Trump to a multi-album record deal. Variations of the rumor spread on Instagram, TikTok (archived) and Facebook, and dozens of Snopes readers also searched the site for answers.

Some readers seemed to interpret the rumor as a factual recounting of real-life events. However, there was no evidence this alleged executive order existed.

Rather, the rumor about the president directing Universal Music Group to sign Lara Trump originated with X user @TheRealThelmaJ1 — a social media account that describes its output as being humorous or satirical in nature. Its bio states: “My son says I’m a parody.”

There is no evidence on the White House page listing Donald Trump’s executive orders that the one in question exists, nor did Trump post anything on his Truth Social account regarding the alleged order.

A Google search of the keywords “Lara Trump Universal Music Group” revealed only social media posts and fact checks related to the claim, not credible news reports confirming the rumor:

Snopes has addressed similar satirical or fake claims about Lara Trump in the past, including the assertion that she sang “I Won’t Back Down” off-key during a Sky News TV appearance.

For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
