Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes is mourning the loss of her father-in-law, Leonard Thompson, whose body was found several days after he disappeared.
WASHINGTON — The father-in-law of Montgomery County Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes was found dead on Saturday, just days after he was reported missing.
Virginia State Police issued a “critical missing adult” alert for Leonard Thompson one day after he was last seen in Herndon, Va. on Monday.
On Saturday, rescue crews recovered Thompson’s body in the Troutville, Va. area, near Roanoke.
In a Facebook post, Dawes wrote:
“We take comfort in knowing that he is now with our Lord and Savior. Thank you all for the prayers and support during this very difficult time. Our last moment with him was accompanying him at mass and giving him a hug and my husband and I said, “Get home safely”…..Rest in Peace, Papa T.”
Earlier in the week, Dawes, a native of Silver Spring, had shared a post urging people to be on the lookout for Thompson.
