Domestic Violence Awareness Ride in Springfield in memory of Jessica Rojas
[ad_1]
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield officials will be participating in a Domestic Violence Awareness Ride in memory of Jessica Rojas.
According to the City of Springfield, Jessica was murdered by her then-boyfriend on March 3rd, 2012, which was the night of her 25th birthday. Every year since then, her family and friends have come together to celebrate her life and to bring awareness to Domestic Violence.
There will be a car parade beginning at noon on Saturday at the Brightwood Health Clinic and will end at Oak Grove Cemetery on Bay Street. Mayor Domenic Sarno and members of the Springfield Police Department Mason Square C3 unit will be participating in the ride.
Mayor Sarno states, “The brave men and women of the Springfield Police Department respond to more than 10,000 calls for domestic violence each year. This is a serious issue and one that deserves our full attention. Ms. Rojas was a bright, smart, and beautiful young lady who had a bright future working in our Law Department but sadly had her life tragically cut short because of domestic violence. May God rest her soul.”
There is a dedicated staff of Domestic Violence advocates in the Springfield Police Department that helps to provide and support victims. If you are or think you could be a victim of domestic violence, call the SPD advocates at (413) 735-1519 or (413) 735-1520.
