On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions released wide receiver Ronnie Bell from the practice squad and signed linebacker Ty Summers.
Bell, the former Michigan Wolverine, had a strong summer and even looked like he might make the 53-man roster at one point. But once rookie Dominic Lovett secured a roster spot, Bell’s chances faded. He did not appear in a regular-season game for Detroit this year.
Summers, meanwhile, is a familiar name. He was with the Lions during training camp last year and impressed in preseason. Despite that, Detroit moved on, and Summers caught on with the Giants, where he started two games in 2023 before a groin injury derailed his stint.
Now back in Detroit, Summers could provide real depth at linebacker.
