Shashi Kapoor, the veteran actor still lives on in the hearts of audiences, with his iconic performances in many evergreen films. The actor-producer was born as the youngest son of legendary actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Kapoor and his wife Ramsarni Mehra Kapoor. He was originally named Balbir Raj Kapoor, but later adopted the stage name Shashi Raj Kapoor after he made his acting debut. He was a renowned child artist and has played the younger version of his brother Raj Kapoor in many films.
Later, he worked as an assistant director for a few years, before making his debut as a leading name under the screen name Shashi Kapoor in 1962, with the movie Dharmaputra. The actor later established himself as one of the most sought-after talents of Hindi cinema and appeared in over 175 films in his acting career. This 1975-released action crime film helmed by Yash Chopra is one of the most successful films in both Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan’s acting careers. Deewaar depicted the complex relationship between Vijay Verma and Ravi Verma, the once-close brothers who turn into arch-rivals after Ravi joins the police force and finds out about Vijay’s criminal background. Shashi Kapoor played Ravi Verma to near perfection, while Amitabh Bachchan cemented his angry-young-man image with the role of Vijay Verma. Shashi Kapoor won millions of hearts with his romantic avatars on celluloid, and one of them is his character Captain Ajit Kapoor from the 1971-released film Sharmeelee. Jab Jab Phool Khile
This 1965-released romantic drama featured Shashi Kapoor in the role of Raja, a Kashmiri boat owner who falls in love with Rita, the only daughter of a rich industrialist.
