On June 22, Michael and Alison Rhodes and I bid farewell to their son George and his family — and the cute puppies — as we got into the car and headed toward Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire.
Sulgrave Manor is the ancestral home of George Washington.
At the ticket counter, I asked if they offered a discount for Mount Vernon members. I didn’t think so, but I wanted to ask. The answer was no. The ticket seller did tell me that earlier in the day, one of the Ladies from the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association had a private tour of Sulgrave Manor.

After finishing our tour of the house and gardens, we had a lovely coffee and cake before heading to the shop. I bought the guide and this keyring, which I will turn into a Christmas ornament for my tree.
We arrived in Cromer, Norfolk, just before the sun set. Our hotel was close to the Cromer Lighthouse.
